About RCM Farming Monitor

RCM Farming Monitor is a component of the agro-advisory service of Rice Crop Manager (RCM) for the Philippines. RCM Farming Monitor determines through an interview of a farmer the actual farming practices of a farmer who received an RCM recommendation for crop and nutrient management. The answers to the interview questions are then used to determine whether the farmer followed the provided RCM recommendation.

RCM Farming Monitor is designed for use by extension workers and crop advisers who interview a farmer using a personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. The interview is conducted immediately before or soon after harvest of the rice crop in the farm lot for which an RCM recommendation was provided. After the interview, the collected information is stored on the computer, smartphone, or tablet until the device is connected to the Internet through a Web browser. Collected information is then transmitted via the Internet to the Rice Crop Manager ‘model’, which calculates the uptake of the RCM recommendation by the farmer.

The concept and framework for RCM Farming Monitor was developed by IRRI to complement the Rice Crop Manager developed by IRRI. The development, testing, and refinement of RCM Farming Monitor were made possible through support from the

Verification of the farmer’s farm lot is required to continue with the interview with the farmer. The content of the software is subject to change without notice.

Instructions for using RCM Farming Monitor

  1. To start, select on a language (Tagalog or English). If it is your first time to access RCM Farming Monitor, this will be the first page you see. If not, you can access with the button, located on the bottom left of the page, then click on Language. Select English for this beta version of RCM Farming Monitor.
  2. Verify farmer’s farm lot to monitor with either farm lot ID or reference number indicated in the RCM recommendation previously provided to the farmer or with location and then validate with the farmer’s birth day, month, and year.
  3. Answer questions for the farmer and farmer's farm lot in the order that they appear on the screen. Select an answer from a list of choices by clicking or ticking, or typing the answer into the provided box.
  4. Use the scroll bar on the right side of the page with questions to go back to a previous question.
  5. After all the questions have been answered, click on the button that will appear on the bottom right of the page.
  6. If a farmer has more than one farm lot for interview, click on the button in the page after the submission of the farmer's answers to proceed with the interview for the other farm lot of the farmer. Or click on the button to proceed with the interview for another farmer.

Downloaded data files

If the Farming Monitor tool will be used to interview RCM farmers offline, the interviewer needs to download data from the RCM database online before the conduct of the farmer interview. Download of data is limited for one (1) barangay per download.
